JJ wins col d'Burgundy

It was going to be hard work for Andy and Michael to ride the hills 2 days in a row but they started positively both going for the sprint up Belmore Hill. It wasn’t until the next hill that the theme of the day was to be uncovered with Joel putting in the hard yards to surprise everyone and take 3rd just behind Michael and Alex. Ash worked hard 2 days in a row in another gruelling lone break to spank everyone for the glory that is High St hill. The chasers did not even manage to get a glimpse of him after Doncaster, which Ash also rode up part of for the first time. No one was there as he raised his arms to salute his victory near the lone bus shelter, the dark clouds above rumbling with the approval of the CCNA gods who are looking after this young rookie.

Once the sprint came around it was JJ again, this time moving into 2nd. Still the danger was not recognized by the rest of the group as they approached the Col d’Burgundy. Michael led all the way to the bus shelter where an impressive surge from JJ again took him around Michael. Then it was “mano-a-mano”, neck and neck till the white pedestrian markings at the top where Joel took the honors, punching the air with excitement, which no one saw as they were so far back. Well done Joel. The day was finished by an extra heavy breakfast with Michael and Andy having to endure an escargot before the almond croissant finally arrived in a late bakery delivery. Another hill ride, another good spanking had by all.
